How to Pray after an Assassination Attempt

Shots fired. Blood. Bodies on the ground. A hurried escort to a car. A former president wounded. A bystander killed. Others injured.

What is the appropriate reaction to the assassination attempt on former President Trump? Outrage? Fear? Finger pointing?

How about prayer.

Suggested prayer topics:

Thanksgiving that President Trump was not killed or seriously injured.

Comfort for the family of Corey Comperatore, a firefighter who shielded his family with his body and was struck fatally by the assassin’s bullet. Comfort also for the family of the presumed shooter, now deceased. Because of his actions, his family has been thrown into a whirlwind of grief and potential danger.

Healing for those who were injured.

Protection for President Trump and President Biden; for their families; for all office holders and office seekers; for all who may be targets of political violence.

Success for the Secret Service and all those entrusted with protecting our nation’s leaders.

Peace within our troubled and divided nation. This includes peace among people, and it includes peace within people whose spirits and minds are so disturbed that they would plot and seek to carry out destructive actions. Surely the Prince of Peace can accomplish more than we ask or imagine.

“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
