Happy Mother’s Day! I’m grateful for my Mom being a wonderful mother to my sister Kelly and me – and now Mom is a beloved Grandma, too. I’m grateful for my wife Ashley being a wonderful mother to our four children. I’m also blessed with a wonderful mother-in-law, Karen, who is a beloved Grammy.
Great moms are a gift from God! Here’s a prayer offered at Shepherd of the Hills this weekend (the prayer is courtesy of a brother pastor):
Mother’s Day Prayer:
Our God of Great Hope, we celebrate Mother’s Day with a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
For those who gave birth this year— we praise new life and pray for rest.
For those who lost a child – we mourn and pray for healing.
For those in the trenches with little ones – we pray for energy.
For those who experienced loss through miscarriage, failed adoptions, or running away— we pray for comfort and strength.
For those on the hard path of infertility—we pray for perseverance.
For foster moms, mentor moms, and spiritual moms – we ask that their love may continually impact children.
For those with close relationships their children –we pray they continue.
For those with disappointment, heartache, and distance from their children – we pray for relationship renewal.
For those who lost mothers – we pray for hope found only in the resurrection.
For those who lived through driving tests, medical tests, and the overall testing of motherhood – we praise you for the courage you gave them.
For those single longing to marry and mother their own children, – we pray that Your grace, O Lord, would guide them.
For stepparents, we pray, O Lord, that you blend families together.
For single moms carrying a heavy parenting load— we pray for strength and perseverance.
For those who placed children up for adoption — we thank You, O Lord, that you put it on their heart to choose life.
For those pregnant with new life—we thank You, O Lord, for the blessing.
And we pray in the silence of our hearts for our own mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures in our lives …
The words of Proverbs 31 say it best on this Mother’s Day.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’” (Proverbs 31:28-29)
Beautiful prayer! Happy Mother’s Day to Ashley!
